Abstract
Since the introduction of the transarterial embolization in early 1970's, the usefulness of the embolization is well known. Until now, the usefulness of the embolization in orthopedic field are as follows; first, definite treatment or before
operation
to reduce the vascularity for the vascular abnormality such as arteriovenous malformation; second, before operation on benign or malignant tumors to reduce vascularity; third, as palliative method in inoperable tumors to reduce the symptoms.
@ES We surdied the transarterial embolization for bone and soft tissue tumor and vascular abnormality in 9 cases from January 1985 to October 1990 at Severance Hospital. The following results were obtained:
@EN 1. Among 9 cases, 4 were arteriovenous malformation; 1. Giant cell tumor; 1, aneurysmal bone cyst; 3, hemangioma.
2. Of the 4 cases of vascular abnormality, 2 cases were performed before as the definite treatment, 2 cases were performed before operation; successful embolization was performed in all cases.
3. In giant cell tumor and aneurysmal bone bone cyst, embolization was performed to reduce the vascularity of the tumor; intraoperative bleeding was minimal.
4. In 3 cases of the inoperable hemangioma, embolization was performed as palliative method and reduce the symptoms.
